In recent months, various acquisitions within the WordPress ecosystem have repeatedly made headlines. With the sale of the SEO plugin provider Yoast to Newfold Digital, one of the last big fish is now likely to be out of the water. In a post published shortly after the sale became known, Yoast CEO Marieke van de Rakt explains how the sale came about.

Van de Rakt and her husband will remain part of the company after the takeover and will continue to lead the Yoast team as an independent entity. Nothing is known about the price paid by Newfold, whose portfolio includes hosting provider Bluehost. But I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of the most expensive purchases by a WordPress company.

For the latest episode of the PressWerk podcast, Christopher Kurth, Flo Brinkmann and I have endeavored to formulate a beginner-friendly guide to choosing a good hosting provider.

The episode is basically divided into two parts. In the first we deal with the factors that we consider to be the most important when choosing a hoster. The second section deals with the different types of hosting that the market has to offer in 2021 – and which, depending on the application, can play to their respective strengths and weaknesses to different degrees.

That could be WordPress 5.9

In a post on WordPress.org, Matías Ventura gave a first glimpse of what’s new in the block editor that could be in store for the next WordPress release later this year.

The notable changes are: better responsiveness of blocks, improved template management, the navigation block, unified settings for color, font etc. and global styles.

I especially missed the navigation block when WordPress 5.8 was released and would therefore be happy to finally be able to use it.
