What is included in the WordPress update?

The WordPress update “Tatum” to version 5.8 has been available for download since July 20, 2021. This WordPress update includes many new features, fixes 196 bugs and contains 95 extensions. Starting with version 5.8, widgets become blocks, which allows not only to use widgets in content, but also to use blocks in widget areas. To make this possible, views for widget editing were created and also adjusted in the Customizer. This functionality can be switched off using the “Classis Widgets” plugin.

With the new “Query Loop Block” it is possible to display a list of posts. Here you can filter by content type, categories, keywords, author and keyword. The difference to the “Recent posts block” here is that the list items themselves consist of blocks.

The new “Template Editor” allows you to edit post templates. In this way, the post can be composed of blocks in a template.

The new “Duotone Filter” enables coloring of the images and the “Cover Block”. Two colors can be chosen freely.

As of version 5.8, Internet Explorer 11 is no longer supported in the backend. Switching to the latest browser is strongly recommended here.
