A WordPress update is approaching in big steps, version 5.8. A small overview of the innovations.
With the list of new features and improvements, WordPress 5.8 is shaping up to be one of Gutenberg’s biggest updates yet.
The following changes are included, among others
- Template Editor: This first step towards Full Site Editing (FSE) helps you create and save custom templates for the website and use them for any post or page.
- Gutenberg blocks as widgets: You can use any Gutenberg block as a widget in the customizer.
- Native support for WebP images: Use of WebP images, which load faster than PNG and JPEG
Other changes concern the color options for choosing text, background and link colors. There are more options here.
There will be a new option to adjust the spacing between columns and a new gradient background option for table blocks.
There will also be a new theme.json for theme authors. You can read more about it here
It should be noted that support for Internet Explorer 11 will be discontinued.
WordPress 5.8 is scheduled to be released on July 20th, 2021. One can be curious.
