UNT Track & Field Competes at UW Invitational in Seattle with Strong Athletes and Recent Record Achievements

On January 30, the University of North Texas (UNT) track and field teams are gearing up to compete at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Washington. This event will take place over the course of Friday and Saturday, and the Mean Green will be sending a select group of 24 athletes to represent the team.

Event Overview

The athletes will primarily participate in field events and distance races, complemented by relay teams in the 4×400 meter and Distance Medley Relay (DMR) events for both the men’s and women’s squads. The UW Invite promises a competitive atmosphere, featuring teams such as Washington, Washington State, TCU, UCLA, Oregon State, and Utah.

Coach Marshall shared his thoughts on the upcoming competition, stating, “We’re going to give many of our sprinters a week off to recover and prepare for the latter half of the season. Our goal each weekend is to focus on winning and executing our races effectively. If we stay committed to competing at a high level, we’re optimistic about breaking more records.”

Recent Achievements

In their latest outing at the Red Raider Invite on January 24, UNT made headlines by setting two school records. Jaylen Washington sprinted to an impressive time of 6.55 seconds in the 60 meters, currently ranking him sixth nationally and twelfth globally for 2025. Additionally, Hendrick Hundl made his mark with a record-setting performance of 7.88 seconds in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. London Culbreath also shined, securing the title in the women’s 3,000 meters.

  • The UNT men’s track and field team is currently ranked ninth in the NCAA South Central Regional rankings.
  • Washington’s exceptional performance places him as the top contender, with the men’s 60 meters group ranked thirteenth nationally according to USTFCCCA.
