Are you looking for the WordPress login window to gain access to your WordPress website? Or have you lost your WordPress access data?

But maybe you also want to know how to protect your WordPress login page from unauthorized access?

In this article you will find help for common website login problems.

How do I log into my WordPress website?

You already have WordPress installed and want to log into your WordPress website. But you don’t know how?

You can access your website’s login window from any browser bar.
Enter your domain and add the following directly to it: /wp-admin
It should look like this (swap mydomain.com for your real domain):

If that worked, you are now in the login screen of your website. Now enter your access data. E-mail address (or username) and password with which you are created under Users.

If the username and password are recognized, you will automatically be taken to the dashboard of your website. (Also called backend – or quite simply: editing mask of your website)

What if I don’t have any more credentials or they are wrong?

That can happen. 😉 No problem: Click on the “Forgot your password?” link in your website’s login window. All you need is either your email address or your username. Try all your email addresses if you don’t remember which one you signed up with.

An e-mail will then be sent to your e-mail address, where you can reassign the password. This should make the login work again.

Where can I change my WordPress admin password?

If you want to change your password, go to your site’s dashboard in the left rail User – Profile. Create a new password and click Save.

Where can create new WordPress accounts for users?

If several people should have access to your WordPress website, you can create their own access. To add them as a user, click on ” in the left black bar on the dashboardUser – Add New”.
Fill in all fields (except for first name, last name, website and language – these are optional).
Make sure you use a “strong” password.
Also think about what role you want to give the user.

I’ve entered my WordPress password incorrectly too many times.

Some WordPress plugins limit login attempts to prevent hacking attacks that could take place through the login page. If you enter the wrong password too many times, you will lock yourself out for a certain period of time.

You have two options: you simply wait for the time, because after a certain time the login usually works again by itself. The duration depends on the period of time that was stored for it.

If you don’t want to wait, use your FTP server to access your website files. Select the “wp-content” folder – open it with a double click and look for the “Plugins” folder. Just rename the security plugin. Then it is no longer active.

Then try again to see if you can log in now. If so, it was because of this plugin.

How can I protect my WordPress login page from attacks?

You can improve the security of your WordPress login by taking the following measures:

1. Secure usernames and passwords

The most important thing to secure your login page from unauthorized access is to use secure usernames and secure passwords.

What are safe usernames?
By that I mean usernames that aren’t easy to guess. (I would not recommend your name, your domain name, classics like wp-admin, admin, etc.)

What are secure passwords?
These should contain at least 12 characters and contain a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.

2. Limit WordPress login attempts with a plugin

As a rule, secure passwords and secure usernames are sufficient to protect your WordPress login area. The Limit Login Attempts Reloaded plugin offers an additional option
Here you can set after how many failed login attempts the user will be locked. It usually only takes a few minutes on the first try. If the login data is then repeatedly entered incorrectly, you will be blocked for several hours. You can set the duration individually.
