Siena College Student Interns at The Megyn Kelly Show: A Journey into Media and Politics
In a significant step for aspiring journalists, Siena College student Tori Mangelli ’23 has secured an internship with the renowned Megyn Kelly Show. Growing up in Delmar and having graduated from Albany Law School, Megyn Kelly shares a hometown connection with Tori, making their initial interaction over Zoom particularly engaging.
The Internship Experience
During their meeting, Kelly expressed familiarity with Siena College, stating, “Oh, you go to Siena? I know that area very well; it’s super nice.” This shared background set a positive tone for Tori’s internship, where she works as a social media intern for the show, which airs live on weekdays from noon to 2:00 p.m. on SiriusXM and YouTube.
Daily Responsibilities
Tori’s role involves a variety of tasks that contribute to the show’s social media presence. She is responsible for pulling quotes from the live broadcasts to share on Twitter and creating engaging reels for Instagram and YouTube shorts. Additionally, Tori has had the opportunity to write articles that have reached Megyn Kelly herself.
“My boss told me Megyn liked them. That was really cool. I was ecstatic about that,” Tori shared, reflecting her excitement about the recognition.
Networking Opportunities
Working closely with the executive producer Steve Krakauer, a seasoned journalist with experience at major networks like CNN, FOX News, and NBC, Tori has been able to expand her professional network significantly. Krakauer introduced her to a contact at Red Seat Ventures, a company focused on building media brands. This connection has led to discussions about a potential job offer in podcast marketing, a field Tori has recently discovered a passion for.
Discovering New Interests
Interestingly, Tori did not have a strong interest in politics prior to this internship and was uncertain about how to leverage her communications degree after graduation. However, after discovering the internship opportunity on LinkedIn, she took a chance, and it has opened doors she never knew existed.
This experience illustrates how internships can serve as a vital stepping stone for students, helping them explore new career paths and build connections in their desired fields.
