Seattle Woman Arrested in Son’s Death, Held on $3 Million Bail

SEATTLE — A tragic incident has led to the arrest of a 29-year-old woman, who is currently being held in King County Jail on a bail set at $3 million. She is under investigation in connection with the death of her 14-year-old son, who succumbed to injuries at Harborview Medical Center.

On January 30, around 2 p.m., the woman dialed 911, claiming that her son was unresponsive following a confrontation between them. Reportedly, she admitted to spanking him with an extension cord, stating that the situation escalated beyond her control. This information was relayed in a statement of probable cause issued by law enforcement.

Emergency responders from the Seattle Police Department and Seattle Fire arrived at the residence located in the 4000 block of 14th Avenue South. They discovered the boy unresponsive, and he was quickly transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

After being advised of her rights, the woman provided a disturbing account to the authorities. She stated that her son had failed to complete his chores, which prompted her anger. According to her, she ordered him to remove his clothing and struck him multiple times with the extension cord. At one point during the confrontation, she allegedly pushed him against a wall, causing his head to impact the surface, after which he became limp.

The woman confessed to continuing the physical discipline for approximately one hour before realizing that her son was unresponsive. Alarmingly, she waited about five minutes before contacting emergency services.

This case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding child discipline methods and the potential consequences of extreme actions. The King County prosecutors are expecting to receive a case referral from the police next week, which will determine the next steps in this harrowing investigation.
