Official Film Chart: Gladiator II Dominates Amid Oscar Buzz

In the latest updates from the Official Film Chart, “Gladiator II” continues its impressive reign, holding the top position for a second consecutive week. Directed by Ridley Scott and featuring stars like Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, this historical epic has recently garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design. Additionally, it is up for three BAFTA awards, including Best Film, showcasing its critical acclaim and audience appeal.

Following closely is the musical blockbuster “Wicked,” which maintains its second-place status. This film adaptation has made waves by securing 10 Academy Award nominations, including accolades for Best Picture, Best Actress for Cynthia Erivo, and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana Grande.

Several other films in the running for the Oscars are making their mark in the chart. “Conclave,” currently at number five, is nominated for both Best Picture and Best Actor for Ralph Fiennes. Meanwhile, “Alien: Romulus” sits at number seven with nods for Best Visual Effects, and “Dune: Part Two” is at number eight, also vying for the prestigious Best Picture award.

Interestingly, horror sequel “Smile 2” has made a surprising return to the Top 10, climbing to a new peak at number seven. Despite its lead actress, Naomi Scott, missing out on award nominations, the film has resonated with audiences, previously reaching number 10 earlier this month.

Lastly, the historical drama “Small Things Like These” enters the chart as this week’s highest new entry at number ten. Starring Cillian Murphy, the film is based on the Irish Magdalene Laundries, which operated from the 18th century until the late 20th century, providing a poignant look at a challenging chapter in history.
