Install WordPress Themes – ThemeZee

WordPress supports installing themes directly from the WordPress.org theme directory, but you can also install themes manually by uploading the theme files to your WordPress backend.

This short tutorial explains how you can easily install a downloaded theme directly in the WordPress backend using the “Upload Theme” function.

Don’t forget to backup before installing the theme

Normally, WordPress is very stable software and a theme installation almost never fails, but it’s still highly recommended that you take regular backups of your WordPress site – just in case. You can use the free BackWPup plugin or one of the many alternative plugins for this.

Install themes with “Upload Theme” function

First you need the theme files as a .ZIP archive file. You can download our themes on your individual theme pages or in your account.

Please note that the download files are already in the .ZIP, which you can use directly to upload and install. However, some browsers automatically unpack all .ZIP files when downloading. To avoid this, you can deactivate this function in the browser settings or use a different browser.

Procedure Theme Installation

First, go to Design → Themes in your WordPress admin panel. click Then click “Install” at the top of your theme overview page.

Here you can choose between different themes that are hosted directly on WordPress.org. However, we want one upload and install the downloaded theme and therefore click on “Upload Theme” (again at the top of the page).

For the installation, WordPress must access the web server in order to copy the required theme files into the WordPress folder. Under certain circumstances, WordPress will ask for the FTP access data. You get this from your web host.

Activate theme

After you have successfully installed the theme, all you have to do is activate it to use it. To do this, go back to Design → Themes in your WordPress admin panel, where you will get an overview of your active theme and all installed themes.

Hover over the theme screenshot, then click Activate to switch the theme.
