Find WordPress Theme – Helpful Tools

Which theme was used?

I am passionate about designing websites. And of course I see websites on the internet from time to time that I think are particularly successful. Personally, I often have two questions:

  1. Was the website designed with WordPress?
  2. If so, which WordPress theme was used?

Luckily, there are ways to answer these questions quickly and easily.

Find out the WordPress theme

whatcms.org

You call the website https://whatcms.org/ on, the URL of the website that is to be examined can be entered here in the first step. Then just click the green button Detect CMS click. You will now receive feedback as to whether the website was created with WordPress or which system is used.

With a click on the arrowhead next to the button Detect CMS a small menu opens. Now he can too hosting providers as well as that WordPress theme or Shopify Theme determined (depending on which CMS was used).

advantage Both the CMS and the hosting provider and the WordPress theme or Shopify theme can be determined.

advantage Both the theme and plugins are displayed.
Disadvantage Is only helpful if the analyzed page was actually created with WordPress. The analysis process feels a little longer than with the other tools. In addition, not all plugins are determined by the tool.

Find out WordPress theme without tools

Of course, you don’t necessarily need an analysis tool if you want to find out the WordPress theme. For many WordPress websites, the theme used is in the footer. This is particularly the case with hobby websites, since free themes are often used here, where the theme information cannot be hidden without CSS knowledge.

If the theme is not displayed in the footer, a look at the source code can of course help. With most browsers, the source code can be displayed by right-clicking on the website -> View page source. In the next step, the source code can be searched for the term theme be searched (key combination for a search = CTRL + F). In this way, the theme (or links to the theme files) can be found.

advantage No tools are required (except for the browser).
Disadvantage Identifying each item often takes longer than using the tools mentioned above.
