GitLab is a software development platform that offers numerous features for the entire development process and can definitely hold a candle to its big competitor GitHub. In some aspects, GitLab even outperforms the competition and you won’t find some special features elsewhere.
One of the central advantages: The platform relies on open source and is also available in an open source version. If you like, you can therefore host the system yourself free of charge – interesting for everyone who does not want to entrust their code to the cloud environment of a third-party provider.
In the c’t workshop “Introduction to GitLab”, administrators learn everything they need to know to run their own GitLab instance in practical exercises; from installation to basic configuration to customization to individual needs. You can also gain experience with the regular operation of the instance and practice rolling out updates. Last but not least, it explains how to manage GitLab with foresight and, for example, how to deal with a growing system load.
The event will be held online, a current web browser is required to participate. In addition, the participants should have basic command line knowledge and a working SSH client – the latter for accessing a virtual machine for practice. The workshop will take place on October 6, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; if you book at least four weeks before the date, you get a 10% early bird discount and the workshop for 789.00 euros. Further information on the workshop and details on how to register can be found on the relevant heise events page. (syt)
