Would you like to create your own website and are you looking for an easy-to-understand solution? Perhaps you have already noticed that the possibilities are almost endless. With the WordPress software, you have a solution that you can use to create a professional website even as a beginner. As a result, clear step-by-step instructions will help you reach your goal quickly. In this article you will learn how to quickly and easily create professional websites with WordPress.
Reasons for a website
Are you an entrepreneur or freelancer or a small, local business owner? Honestly, without your own website, you don’t exist on the Internet for your potential customers. Around 80 percent of users are specifically looking for products and services in their region in order to then buy and use them locally.
If you are not found, customers will go elsewhere. Share targeted information about who you are, what you offer, what your customers are saying about your range of products, what special offers are currently running and much more.
WordPress – the best solution in every respect
The advantages that the CMS (Content Management System) WordPress brings are numerous. You do not need any programming knowledge as this system can be operated intuitively. The websites you build with WordPress always look great.
There are thousands of designs to choose from that you can use. You can also customize your desired design according to your personal ideas. WordPress also offers you many options to make your website interesting for Google (topic search engine optimization).
The further development of WordPress is guaranteed because more than 20 percent of all websites worldwide are now based on this CMS. In addition, numerous helpful functions are added every day. The system sets technological trends and is regularly updated.
From simple landing pages to a wide range of websites with numerous subpages, from blogs to event calendars and galleries – almost any Internet project can be realized with WordPress.
The basis for your website: web space and domain
You need exactly 3 things for your own website:
- A hosting package (the location of your website)
- A domain (the internet address of your website)
- WordPress (the software solution)
In technical jargon, the storage space is called web space, and its providers are called hosters. On the Internet you will find a large number of companies with corresponding offers. I recommend the multiple award-winning service provider Host Europe – also for the registration of your domain.
To the Host Europe website
Host Europe offers you different hosting packages at attractive conditions and scores with high-quality, reliable hardware, optimized customer service and maximum availability. You can check online at Host Europe whether your desired Internet address is still available and then book the appropriate hosting package.
Recommendation: Make sure your hosting package supports the “htaccess” function. You will need these later for WordPress.

Tips for the ideal Internet address (domain)
The domain of your website is very important. For this reason, you should think carefully about which domain name you choose. A few tips for this:
- Company name / club name
- keyword domain
- Mixture of company and keyword (for example: www.mueller-hunde Spielzeug.de)
In principle, the same rules apply to private users. Example: www.annas-hundeseite.de. Your web address should be between seven and thirteen characters long. This keeps it short and crisp and easier to remember.
Choose the right ending: In addition to the most commonly used endings .de and .com, there are numerous others that you can use. For example, you will find .net, .eu, .bayern, .blog, .shop and many other domain endings.
Be careful not to infringe any trademark rights. Third-party names (private or company names), trademarks and titles may not be used. So-called “mistyped addresses” (idelao instead of idealo) and similar-sounding names are also not recommended.
How to get started with WordPress
After you have decided on a hosting package and a domain, you can install WordPress. You have two options for doing this:
- 1-click installation of HostEurope
- The manual installation of WordPress on a hosting package
I recommend the manual variant. In this way, you will learn all the important basics and know how to help yourself if you have problems. In addition, this is the more stable variant.
In the following article I will show you how to install WordPress: Oliver Pfeil – Installing WordPress
However, I don’t want to withhold a brief summary from you at this point:
- First you need an FTP program, such as FileZilla. After installing FileZilla, you can enter your provider’s FTP data and connect to the web server. It is best to download the free CMS directly from the WordPress site.
- After unpacking the saved .zip file, copy the files to the web server via FTP and connect the directory to your domain. Start the WordPress installation by opening your Internet address in the browser and following the instructions there.
WordPress basic setting
After the installation, you should first make some important basic settings in the backend. Click on “Settings” in the menu. Here you can change the page title and create a subtitle that describes your website in a few words.
Enter an e-mail address that will be used for administration purposes and adjust the time zone if necessary. Under “Permalink” change the setting to Post name. This makes indexing easier for search engines and you will be found faster. You can also specify whether your posts may be commented on. If a team is working on the site, you should assign appropriate roles.
Tips for your successful website
A website is only really successful if it is visited by as many interested parties as possible. Here’s an example: The best pizzeria in the world goes bankrupt if nobody enters the restaurant and knows about the pizzas.
For this reason, once your WordPress website is published, you should ensure that it is publicized. The following tips will help you:
- Submit your site to Google Search Console.
- Write interesting articles for your target audience.
- Do some SEO (search engine optimization).
- Get to grips with the topic of online marketing.
- Use social media channels to spread the word about your website.
Also make sure that the website has a good structure that allows your visitors easy orientation. Create menus, work with categories and maintain tags and tag clouds.
Offer your visitors interesting information. Make the complicated simple and provide reliable facts. Write in an entertaining way, especially if a topic is rather dry and purely for factual information.
Keep your content up to date and breathe life into your website. Blog readers expect new posts regularly. The search engines also respond with a positive ranking if your website is dynamic and well-maintained.
Finally, an important tip: Keep WordPress up to date with regular updates and thereby close any security gaps. With regular backups, you are on the safe side even if an error occurs.
